Lurchers
Alright guys i'd thought id tell you all that im madly into running dogs, It's where my passion for feild sports started, and now still belong, there's nothing like it, you have to be as quiet and as un-noticable to your prey as possible, then you have to remember not to be too keen on the lamp, only keep it on for the amount of time you need, otherwise the rabbits become weary. I also use a red filter on my lamp alot of the time as rabbits generally cannot see the red light.
You need to get your dog perfect at retreiving, and coming back as soon as the lamp has gone off before you venture into the feild, as I have witnessed with some peoples dog's they get too excited and run the rest of the feild on their own, which hardly ever ends in a kill, and generally meens that feild is useless for that night.
Also a younge dog will take a while to learn the trust the lamp, they need to learn that when you slip them there is a rabbit at the end of that beam, this is done by positive re-inforcement. For example with a younge dog you have to be sure they have seen the rabbit you want them to see, they may pull on the slip leed but don't be fooled most will run in the oposite direction.
When your dog is up to scratch and you personally know what your doing nothing can be better!
Pre-ban we used to ran fox, but since i have seen no point.
Anyway here is my new rabbiting dog "Buck"
